None of the three teams from the Lancaster-Lebanon League advanced to the bracket finals of the Pennsylvania State High School Bowling Championships Saturday at Bowlero Pittsburgh.
That included defending state boys champion Elizabethtown, which fell short of reaching the bracket finals, finishing sixth in qualifying with 3,728 pins, nearly 100 short of advancing; the top four teams moved on.
The Bears defeated Middletown 2-1, including a thrilling 198-193 win in the third game, in an exciting finals match last year. They won this year’s L-L League title and qualified for the state tournament by finishing second at the Eastern Regionals.
Also at the state tournament were Donegal’s boys and Elizabethtown’s girls, who each placed 12th.
Greensburg Salem defeated Armstrong to win the boys title and Hempfield (District Seven) took the girls crown over Plum, both in 2-0 results.
Greensburg Salem’s win ends a two-year run for L-L teams as state boys champs after Manheim Township won in 2023. The L-L had won boys titles six of the previous eight years, including Cedar Crest in 2019 and Penn Manor from 2016-18.
