Egypt is set to host the 24th edition of the Arab Junior and Ladies Golf Championship from 7-10 May, the Egyptian Golf Federation has announced. The tournament, sponsored by the Arab Golf Federation, will take place at both Madinaty Golf Club and Katameya Dunes Golf Club in Cairo.
The championship will feature five age categories for boys and girls, as well as a ladies’ category. The event has a long history, with one of the categories being held for the 24th time, while others will be held for the 16th, fifth, fourth, and second times, respectively.
The competition will include member states of the Arab Golf Federation eligible to participate: Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates.
The championship aims to promote and support golf in the Arab region, as well as develop the sport by providing more opportunities and improving the quality of competition for players from member federations and Arab individuals at both regional and international levels.
Omar Hisham Talaat, President of the Egyptian Golf Federation, expressed his delight at the federation hosting the first amateur tournament on the Arab Golf Federation’s 2025 agenda.
“It is a great honour for us to organise the Arab Junior and Ladies Championship in a joint event between Madinaty Golf Club and Katameya Dunes Golf Club,” he said.
Talaat added that the tournament will be the first major regional championship held during the new board’s term, noting that the Golf Federation has ambitious plans to organise and host golf tournaments at a completely new level in Egypt, the Arab region, and North Africa, for both amateurs and professionals. This will be in cooperation with local, regional, and international golf bodies, alongside professional golf tours from around the world.
“For the first time, this year’s Arab Junior and Ladies Championship will see the public invited to attend the tournament events, with a focus on attracting residents of Madinaty through the organisation of a ‘Golf Festival’ at Madinaty Golf Club on the sidelines of the tournament,” Talaat said. The festival will include recreational golf activities and musical performances, with the aim of attracting all age groups and introducing them to the sport in an enjoyable way.
“We seek to spread the culture of golf and encourage more individuals to practice the game at various levels,” he added.
Talaat affirmed that the Egyptian Golf Federation is looking forward to strengthening Egypt’s position on the sports tourism map by organising the championship to the highest standards and hosting it at Cairo’s magnificent golf courses. He pledged that the experience would be positive for all players, delegations, guests, and fans.
Entry to the tournament is free but requires prior registration.
