Three members of the St. Croix Track Club competed in Puerto Rico over the weekend in the Puerto Rico Youth and Adult Athletics Association’s second youth qualifying meet.
The meet was held Saturday, March 22, at the Raul Rodriguez Athletic Field in Villalba, Puerto Rico.
The top performance from the St. Croix club came from Safiya Prasad, who finished second in the girls 14-15 800-meter run.
The 15-year-old Prasad finished the race in a personal-best time of 2 minutes, 23.96 seconds, just under a quarter-second behind race winner Sandra Velez Rosario (2:23.78).
Other performances by STXTC athletes at the qualifier were:
X Isaiah Benjamin finished seventh in the boys 16-17 long jump with a best effort of 5.00 meters (16 feet, 4¾ inches). The 17-year-old Benjamin’s best jump came on his first attempt.
X David Morton Jr. ran in two long-distance events for the St. Croix Track Club. He finished 15th in the boys 16-17 1,500-meter run in 4:51.30, and 13th in the 3,000-meter run in 10:52.55.
