President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the European Union Special Representative for Central Asia, Eduards Stiprais, in Tashkent on May 13, the presidential press service reported.
During the meeting, Stiprais conveyed greetings and best wishes from António Costa, President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.
The sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral and regional ties in line with the outcomes of the first Central Asia–European Union Summit, held in Samarkand in April this year.
Special focus was given to the swift implementation of joint investment, financial, and technical cooperation projects totaling €12bn.
Both parties emphasized the need to accelerate the development and promotion of concrete initiatives.
In addition, the leaders exchanged views on key regional challenges and outlined a plan for future cooperation activities between Uzbekistan and the EU.
Uzbekistan and the European Union established diplomatic ties shortly after Uzbekistan gained independence in 1991, and their relationship has steadily deepened over the years. The EU’s 2019 Strategy on Central Asia serves as the main framework guiding this regional partnership.
