Best moments and summary from Oscar Piastri's pole position in qualifying for the 2025 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. Verstappen and Norris complete the top three starting tomorrow.
Qualifying for the 2025 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix has ended. Oscar Piastri took pole position, and tomorrow's top three will be Piastri, Verstappen, and Norris. Thank you for joining us here at VAVEL.
Oscar Piastri finished spectacularly, beating Verstappen by 0.034 seconds, taking pole position in the final seconds of Q3. Norris tried until the very end, but they couldn't secure a 1-2 for McLaren tomorrow.
Max Verstappen regained the lead and posted a great time of 1:14.722. Hadjar surprised everyone by moving up to fifth, and George Russell moved up to fourth. Stroll's good time quickly crumbled. Final moments of Q3.
Lance Stroll pulls off a surprise move to take first place, with the McLarens following close behind on times, and Verstappen drops to fourth. A strong finish to qualifying is coming up to determine pole position.
The third round of qualifying for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix has begun at the Autodromo Enzo Di Ferrari, and it's time to find out the order of drivers who will be in the top 10 starting tomorrow.
Q2 is over, the second round of qualifying is over and we have the following drivers out: Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari, Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes, Gabriel Bortoleto of Sauber and Franco Colapinto of Alpine in last place due to the crash.
All the leading drivers have retired, and with good times, they head to the pits to await the third round of qualifying. Both Ferraris, Bortolleto, and Antonelli are in danger of being eliminated from the standings.
Lando Norris sets a great time and takes the lead from Verstappen, with the Briton clocking 1:15.261. A very good restart to the season, with the leaders now completing the most laps on the track.
The Race Control team determined there was insufficient evidence to award Bearman the time, so he is out of Q2. The decision stands, and Bortolleto will remain in the standings. The second round of qualifying begins.
We're still waiting for qualifying to restart. Oliver Bearman and the Haas team are in talks with the FIA because the driver apparently managed to set the required time, but his time was off by a second or so. Colapinto, on the other hand, made it into Q2 but will not continue due to car issues.
Q1 is over, the first round of qualifying is over and we have the following drivers out: Bulls Racing's Liam Lawson, Sauber's Niko Hulkenberg, Haas' Esteban Ocon and Ollie Bearman and Red Bull's Yuki Tsunoda at the bottom due to the crash.
All drivers are starting to record times, so far only Yuki Tsunoda is out due to his incident. Both Sauber and Haas drivers are on the ropes, although we'll have to wait and see what the FIA has to say about Colapinto and Alpine.
Max Verstappen breaks the record and takes the lead in Q1, almost 1 second behind Alonso. The leaders are starting to record times.
Franco Colapinto faces a potential penalty for entering the track before the green flag following Tsunoda's incident, an error by the Alpine team.
The action resumes. Yuki Tsunoda is feeling well but unfortunately will not be able to continue qualifying. The leaders are already starting to appear on the track. Hamilton manages to move up to third place, but we're still waiting for official times from the McLarens, George Russell of Mercedes, and Max Verstappen of Reese's Bull.
A clean start at the Ferrari Circuit, with several teams making their first attempts. Alex Albon takes the lead with a time of 1:16 minutes. The asphalt is slightly damp, and the drivers wait patiently to attack.
Qualifying for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix of the Formula 2025 regular season has begun at the Autodromo Enzo Di Ferrari. The 45th edition of this Grand Prix begins. Follow all the action from this preliminary stage here on VAVEL.
We're just minutes away from the start of the Formula 1’s 2025 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix Qualifying presentation and FIA’s pre-race protocols. We will know this race order for tomorrow’s Grand Prix.
The compounds for this race have been changed, and most drivers are expected to opt for soft tires for qualifying, then medium tires for tomorrow's race, then hard tires for a one-stop finish. Barring the possibility of rain, the chances of that are minimal.
All eyes today will be on Ferrari drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, not only because they are the home team in this Grand Prix, but also because they are fourth in the Constructors' World Championship and both are expected to score points to get into the Top 3.
Since the start of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in 1980, the track record has belonged to Lewis Hamilton, who set a record time for the fastest lap in history of 1:30.983 in the 2019 edition. Surprisingly, despite that time, Lewis Hamilton finished second in the competition behind Sebastian Vettel.
During free practice, we had mixed results with good performances from McLaren and Ferrari, the latter being the home team for this Grand Prix. Let's remember that this is when the championship can begin to be decided and we'll see what the teams chasing McLaren are capable of doing to climb the Constructors' World Championship standings.
The last winner of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix was Max Verstappen in the 2024 edition, the Dutchman came from behind to beat Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, this victory would be fundamental for Verstappen to be crowned World Constructors' Champion last season.
We're just under an hour away from the start of the 2025 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari. All the teams will be chasing victory. Who will take it this time? Follow our coverage on VAVEL.

After confirming the change in team management, the Alpine team announced the temporary suspension of Jack Doohan for the next five races to give Franco Colapinto the opportunity to return to the Formula 1 track. The Argentine returns to Formula 1, having made his debut last season replacing Logan Sargeant with Williams Racing.
For the first time in recent seasons, Max Verstappen doesn't lead the Drivers' Championship, and his streak of more than 1,000 days as the leader was broken by Britain's Lando Norris. For now, McLaren driver Oscar Piastri leads the standings with 131 points, following strong results in the first part of F1's Asian tour. Lando Norris is 16 points behind him, and Max Verstappen sits in third place with 99 points. The fight for first place is only 16 points apart, so the result of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix will be important.
The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix will be the first of all the races we will have on European soil and will mark the start of the tour in this region of the continent, which hosts the vast majority of the Grands Prix in a Formula 1 season. The final Grand Prix in this region will be in Monza, Italy, in September.
One of the most important news of this period was that we will reach the midpoint of the race and the grid for the 2026 season will begin to be defined, with several notable changes and the arrival of two new teams, Cadillac and Audi.
The Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit is 4.909 kilometers long, has 18 corners, a DRS zone, and a speed trap. It was inaugurated in 1980. For this race, 71 laps will be completed to determine the winner of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
Another area to watch is the fight for first place in the Constructors' Championship after Red Bull's dominance in recent seasons. It finally seems that the changes on the grid are having an effect, with McLaren leading the competition with 246 points, 105 ahead of Mercedes. The German team has George Russell in his first season as team leader and Kimi Antonelli, who has made a good impression as a rookie. On the other hand, the Red Bull team has only had one of its drivers score points, with Max Verstappen being the only one. This is reflected in the arrival of Yuki Tsunoda from the team to help him, placing them in third place with 105 points, 141 less than the leading team.
The last winner of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix was Max Verstappen with a time of 1:25:30.814 last season. The Red Bull driver was joined by Lando Norris, also of McLaren, and Charles Leclerc of Ferrari. George Russell also took home the award for fastest lap with a time of 1:18.589.
The Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari will host the seventh race of the 2025 Formula 1 season. This will be the 45th edition of this Grand Prix, held on Sunday, May 18.
