Tensions are rising within Sierra Leone’s political circles amid reports that a foreign investor is allegedly lobbying for the removal of the country’s Minister of Mines.
Myk Berewa, Director of Communication at State House, expressed serious concern over what he described as an unacceptable attempt to undermine national sovereignty.
“Imagine a foreign investor trying to orchestrate the dismissal of our Mines Minister,” Berewa stated. “It’s the nerve and lack of respect that gets me. Could it be that he genuinely believes someone other than our President holds such powers?”
While no official changes have been made to the ministerial portfolio, sources claim the unnamed investor has been pressuring influential stakeholders following regulatory disagreements over mining concessions. The move, if true, is being widely condemned as a dangerous precedent that could open the door to external interference in Sierra Leone’s internal affairs.
The Office of the President has not commented directly on the allegations but reiterated that all ministerial appointments and dismissals remain solely within the constitutional authority of the President.
This is a clear indication that the minister is working in the interest of the the country. He has refused to work in the interest of these rogue investor who want to milk the country minerals and give crumbs to the country. Mr. Rogue investor we are dealing with the wrong man, Mattia will never be cowed to do what is wrong.
