Sixth inning sinks Northern Bedford baseball in semifinals

WARFORDSBURG — Top-seeded Southern Fulton scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open what had been a 2-2 game and topped fourth-seeded Northern Bedford, 7-2, in the District 5 Class 1A semifinals on Friday.

Wesley Horsh had three of Northern Bedford’s nine hits — which equaled those of Southern Fulton, but Southern got to Northern Bedford starting pitcher Reece Musselman the last time through the lineup for its big inning.

Jett Burger went 3-for-3 for Southern Fulton, and Joel Fitz earned the win on the mound.

Jordan Free had an RBI single for the Black Panthers, who finished the season 11-9.

“I am extremely proud of this team,” NBC coach Ryan Cherry said. “Especially our seniors (Musselman, Bowers, Horsh, Kochara and Bryson Free). I want to thank them (seniors) for all they have done for the Northern Bedford Baseball program. They will be extremely missed. We went toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in the state today and came up one inning short.”
