Pacific Volleyball Academy’s elite or 16U division won the Smart Spike Challenge Cup championship in the Philippines, and Guam’s Keisha Chen earned the Most Valuable Player title.
The Smart Spike competition was from June 16 to 27 at Gameville Ball Park in Mandaluyong.
The team from Guam, in a release, said PVA elite overcame the top-seeded St. Theresa’s College in a decisive victory, winning in three straight sets with scores of 25-21, 30-28, and 25-18.
PVA said its elite’s triumph was a thrilling display of talent and teamwork.
Keisha Chen not only earned the MVP title for her “outstanding performance and leading scorer for most of the games throughout the tournament,” but was also recognized as the Best Middle Blocker, “solidifying her status as a key player in the team’s success,” PVA said.
Peyton Camacho also made her mark on the tournament by being awarded the Best Libero, showcasing her defensive prowess and contributing significantly to the team’s overall performance, PVA added.
Coach Manny Guarin, in the same press release, said the PVA elite team’s victory “marks a significant achievement in the end of the club season, highlighting their dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence.”
In the 18U division, PVA premier finished strong in pool play as the top seed but succumbed to the might of the Philippine teams, ultimately ending up in 4th place.
Lea Aromin received the 2nd Best Outside Hitter award for the tournament, PVA added.
