Signing contracts with Caritas Slovenia for emergency humanitarian response in 2025

SLOVENIA, May 16 - In 2025, Caritas Slovenia, the Ministry's strategic partner for emergency humanitarian response, will carry out humanitarian projects in Ukraine, Gaza, Madagascar, Lebanon, Ethiopia and Sudan. The common denominator of all activities remains providing aid for the most vulnerable groups: women, children, internally displaced people and households experiencing extreme vulnerability. In cooperation with local partners, Caritas Slovenia will implement projects involving the reconstruction of homes and infrastructure, improved access to health services and drinking water, psychosocial support for children and the strengthening of local capacities and resilience to enable more sustainable responses to crises.

In this way, Slovenia contributes to rapid, effective and principled humanitarian action grounded in the values of humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence. The aid is intended for people affected by natural disasters, armed conflicts and other crises.

State Secretary Gabrič and Secretary General Tomažič discussed the implementation of this year's projects in the most affected regions, as well as best practices in the activities carried out so far. She also congratulated Caritas Slovenia on its 35th anniversary and expressed her appreciation for the long-standing partnership and the vital role it has played in achieving shared humanitarian goals. She emphasised the importance of a long-term approach that goes beyond responding to immediate needs, focusing instead on rebuilding affected areas, empowering local communities and improving access to basic services such as education and health care.

During the signing of the contracts, the State Secretary said, "In a world facing increasingly frequent and complex crises, strategic partnerships with organisations such as Caritas Slovenia are indispensable. With their help, Slovenia can ensure a rapid response and assistance to those in greatest need. This partnership is not a mere formality – it is a reflection of our shared commitment to solidarity and humanity."

In 2025, Caritas Slovenia will continue to provide emergency humanitarian assistance in crisis hotspots, especially where natural disasters, armed conflicts or displacement threaten life and access to basic necessities.
